Current Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program student Adam LaPorte (Cycle 32) presented his new play COURTSHIP at the Tank Theatre on September 28, 29, 30, and October 1st.
In a society chock full of customs and traditions, the only way a girl can leave her parent’s house is through a marriage to a gentleman of stature. A person, named Person, plots to liberate her sisters, Sister and Other sister, from an oppressive society by assuming the identity of a dead boy and posing as an almost impossibly ideal suitor. But her (pretty ill-conceived) plan (predictably) goes awry when the dead boy, who is now living her life, is deemed the most eligible sister, exemplifying all the qualities a young woman should aspire to on account of actually being a corpse. As the rules of polite society rear their ugly heads, Person soon realizes that nuptials are no laughing matter in this surrealist, unhinged regency-era romance.
