COMPANIONSHIP, by Rachel J. Peters (Cycle 14)

Cycle 14 alum Rachel J. Peters has the world premiere of her new opera COMPANIONSHIP at Fort Worth Opera this past May.

Adapted from the short story by internationally bestselling author Arthur Phillips, this delicious dark comedy follows the obsessive quest of an aspiring baker named Leslie Sinclair. Recovering from a nervous breakdown, she sets out to bake the perfect baguette when the 207,345th one suddenly comes to life before her very eyes. Begging to be fed, The Dough promises to reveal a mysterious “great wisedom,” if only she will obey its every wish and whim. Companionship mirrors our modern world, where what we consume becomes all-consuming.

Peters, who has has a string of productions of her new operas, will also have a world premiere of her work as part of Boston Opera Collaborative's Opera Bites in late October. Scenes from her opera for young audiences ROOTABAGA COUNTRY were also performed by Vivace Youth Chorus in early August as part of their Annual Opera Workshop.
