GMTWP Alum John Carden (Cycle 22)

GMTWP Cycle 22 alum John Carden has penned the book for his new musical SARAH CREWE which will be produced at the Harlem School of the Arts this May.

Co-written with composer/lyricist and collaborator Andrew Sotomayer, the show is set in the Sugar Hill section of Harlem, New York, circa 1929. Sarah Crewe, a 15-year old heiress has been enrolled by her family’s attorney, Mr. Barrow, at Miss Minchin’s School of Ballet. But things take a sudden turn, for the newly orphaned little rich girl, when the stock market crashes in 1929. With the loss of her inheritance she faces a bleak and uncertain future as she goes from riches to rags. Sarah’s life is upended and she is left victim to the strict head mistress, Miss Minchin, who indentures her to a life of servitude. Without a penny to her name, Sarah, with the help of her friends Becky, Louis and Harry, plot to regain her freedom.

The show will feature an ensemble of HSA students.
