Current student Blanche Akonchong’s second year film Mercury Afrograde has captured the attention of this season’s festivals.

Since being a Film Impact grant finalist this spring, Mercury Afrograde has been selected for Afrikana Film Festival, Cucalorus, and Woodstock - where it received Honorable Mention in Student Shorts. Currently, the short is screening at New Fest in the Black Family Matters shorts program - alongside recent alum Terrance Daye's Sundance-winning 2nd year film Ship: A Visual Poem -  from October 16-27.

Mercury Afrograde Synopsis: On a crazy day during mercury retrograde, a family’s deepest secrets come to the surface forcing them to realize they are not the model African family.
