GRAD FILM AT URBANWORLD 2019

The following Grad Film projects have been selected to screen at Urbanworld 2019.

Harriet, directed by faculty member Kasi Lemmons, is set to open the festival as a Spotlight Presentation. The biopic film chronicles the pioneer of the Underground Railroad, Harriet Tubman, as she risks her own freedom for the prospect of others.

Release, directed by alum Adel L. Morales, will have its world premiere in the U.S. Narrative Features category. The film follows a man grappling with the changing world after spending 21 years in prison.

Be a Fish, directed by student Aisha Ford, will have its New York Premiere in the Narrative Shorts category. Focused on an African-American girl obsessed with her hair, the film follows an underwater journey of the girl and a small fish when her mom forces her to go below the surface.

Dunya’s Day, directed by student Raed Alsemari, is set to compete in the Narrative Shorts category. The film, set in Saudi Arabia, follows a wealthy woman attempting to throw a graduation party after her domestic help abandons her.

Feathers, directed by alum A.V. Rockwell, will be competing in the Narrative Shorts category. Following a new student at The Edward R. Mill School for Boys, the film studies an emotional journey of overcoming bullying while coping with a tragic past.

BGM, directed by student Sontenish Myers, will be competing in the Music Video category. Starring Tei Oni, the video follows a young girl transported to an underworld of Black Girl Magic after seeking refuge in a girl’s bathroom.
