Professor Carol Dysinger’s Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl) won Best Short Documentary from the International Documentary Association. The short, which Dysinger directed, tells the story of young Afghan girls learning to read, write - and skateboard - in Kabul. The IDA jury praised it for the “endorsement of the joyful power of skateboarding, the exceptional work of Skateistan in Kabul and the determination and courage of the filmmaking team.”

Since its Best Documentary win at Tribeca, the documentary has also received a BAFTA shortlist. The official BAFTA nominations in all categories will be announced on January 7, 2020.
