Best Supporting Actor 2017 Mahershala Ali

Congratulations to Academy Award Winner Mahershala Ali!

Mahershala Ali, class of 2000, won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in 'Moonlight'. 'Moonlight', also featuring André Holland (class of 2006), won the Oscar for Best Picture.

In his acceptance speech, Mahershala thanked previous Grad Acting Chair Zelda Fichandler and faculty members from his time in the program.

"I want to thank my teachers, my professors. I have so many wonderful teachers and one thing that they consistently told me (Zelda Fichandler, Ron Van Lieu, Ken Washington) is that it wasn't about you. It's not about you, it's about these characters. You are in service to these stories and these characters." - Mahershala Ali, Grad Acting class of 2000
