Bernarda
NYU Tisch Grad Acting & Design for Stage and Film Class of 2027 Present
Bernarda
a new adaptation by Blake Hackler,
based on The House of Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca
directed by Blake Hackler
Bernarda, a new adaptation of The House of Bernarda Alba reimagines Lorca’s classic tragedy in a spare, heightened world where desire, repression, and family loyalty collide. The play follows Bernarda and her five daughters, locked in mourning, as tensions over inheritance, passion, and power erupt into violence. Blending ritual, poetry, and dreamlike imagery, the adaptation magnifies the original’s intensity while speaking urgently to questions of gender, authority, and freedom today.
