APP '20 Andrea Ambam's "Rehearing Justice" explores current events in public policy while honoring Black women of the past. This is Ambam's first one-person show, making clear her talent and diligence put forth to a seed of an idea inspired by her taking of a One Person Shows course with Professor Anna Deavere Smith during her student tenure.
Rehearsing Justice is a one-woman show that follows the epic journey of a time-traveling Ida B. Wells embarking on a 21st century anti-lynching crusade. After being invoked into the present, Ida ventures on an investigative mission (just as she did with lynchings in the 1900s), where she collides with verbatim testimony from some of the most transformative figures and moments in the Black Lives Matter Movement. Rehearsing Justice is a theatrical storytelling experience exploring the technology of social justice through a collage and collision of time.
"Rehearsing Justice" will be performed live at the BAX Theater on Sat, May 21 at 7pm and Sun, May 22 at 5pm. The Sunday performance will also be streamed for remote access. Order tickets for the performance here.
