Arts Professor Mark Jenkinson has been teaching in the Photography and Imaging Department at NYU since 1984. He attended the Visual Studies Workshop (SUNY Buffalo) from 1972- 1974 and he is a graduate of Cooper Union (B.F.A.), 1978.

In addition to his teaching career he is a working freelance photographer. Over the past 35 years he has had well over 35,000 photographs published in virtually every major magazine in the world including Vogue, Time, GQ, Vanity Fair, Der Spiegel, and Town & Country to name a few. Over the course of his magazine career he has photographed hundreds of stories on everything from fashion to photojournalism.

He has been a contract photographer to the Hearst, Conde’-Nast, Times Mirror, and Time-Life magazine groups.

From 1990 to 2003, he wrote and photographed over 40 first-person travel/adventure stories where he placed himself as a novice attempting to learn and compete in various sports and professions such as bounty hunting, auto racing, speed skiing, motocross, etc.

He has written three textbooks on photographic practice, techniques and careers:

His fine art photography has been exhibited at Light Gallery, James Danziger, Daniel Wolf Gallery, and many others. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his professional work from The Society of Publication Designers, Graphis, the Society of American Graphic Designers, The American Vision Award, etc.
