Bill Gullo

Primarily a screenwriter, Bill’s creative work includes directing and producing for film, tv and the web. His original dramatic thriller, BASTARD attracted Martin Scorsese to executive produce in 2018 with Oscar nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto directing. Now titled FLOODPLAIN, the script has Ben Foster, Katherine Waterston and Justice Smith attached to star with Jordan Horowitz (La La Land) producing and Topic financing. His science fiction love story, NECTAR, written for Brazilian director Caito Ortiz is currently casting, and his darkly comic thriller TOXIC has acclaimed director Emily Atef attached to direct and is also at the casting stage. He is developing his first unscript show FIRST KISS with filmmaker Shaka King (Judas and the Black Messiah).
Bill has been selected for Hollywood’s Black List and wrote the screenplay for the film, PLUS ONE (+1), a New York Times Critic’s Pick. He wrote the screenplay for THE QUITTER which Anita Gates of the NY Times described as “a textured, heartfelt drama…a simple story well told.” In 2020, Bill sold his first TV pitch THE NEW KIDS to Freeform after developing the idea from a nonfiction book of the same name. He has also written episodes for Hypothetical the podcast series hosted by Kerry Bishe and produced by Luminary and Film Nation.

In the beginning of his career, his debut as a writer/director came with his short film, ONE YEAR DOWN, which premiered at Aspen Shortsfest during the same year he also wrote, directed and produced his stage musical, YOU AGAIN, A Musical about Cloning, at the The New York International Fringe Festival. His collaboration with director John Hyams (ALONE) resulted in THE IGNORANT BLISS OF SUN AND MOON, a short film adapted from one of Bill's short stories by the same name.
He is the Associate Director of Almanack Screenwriters where he helps provide a platform to find and support diverse storytellers for the screen with strong voices and unique stories.
