Michelle Mackey

Michelle Mackey is a fine artist and scenic painter living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Mackey has an MFA in painting from Pratt Institute and is represented by Holly Johnson Gallery in Dallas, Tx and Binder Fine Arts in Marfa, Tx. Her artwork has been exhibited in Berlin, Seoul, New York City, Dallas, and various other locations. In 2018, she had a solo exhibition entitled, “From the Edge” at Lorimoto Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Mackey’s work has been reviewed in publications like The New York Sun, Huffington Post, and New American Paintings. In addition to painting, Mackey writes about the art world for online journals artcritical.com and culturecatch.com. Since 2004, Mackey has been a member of Local USA 829: the representative voice of Designers and Scenic Artists. Mackey has worked in leadership roles and as a member of core crews of scenic artists for Broadway theater productions by Manhattan Theatre Club and Roundabout Theatre and television shows such as Boardwalk Empire, Vinyl, and Orange is the New Black. She is currently a scenic artist on the 6th season of Power. For Mackey, connecting with students keeps her art and scenic practice vital. She has taught painting and drawing at a number of Universities both in the Fine Arts and in Design Departments. Mackey is thrilled to bring both her worlds of fine art and scenic art together in her “Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting” class at NYU.
