Friederike Hirz
Part-Time Lecturer
Friederike Hirz is a theatre director and multidisciplinary artist who graduated with honors from the Ernst Busch Academy of Performing Arts in Berlin. She studied dance and choreography at the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen and theInter-University Centre for Dance (HZT) in Berlin and holds a BA in Political Science from the Universities of Guadalajara (Mexico) and Hamburg (Germany). Friederike began her career assisting renowned directors such as Frank Castorf and René Pollesch at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, where she made her directorial debut in 2013. Her work moves at the intersection of political theory, choreography, and theatre, with a focus on creating collective dramatic situations that challenge social dynamics from a queer-feminist perspective. She has collaborated with leading artists and Berlin institutions, including the Volksbühne, Maxim Gorki Theater, Sophiensaele, and HAU Hebbel am Ufer, as well as Colombian institutions such as the Teatro Colón in Bogotá and the Museum of Modern Art in Medellín. In addition to her theatre and performance work, Hirz contributes to film projects as a writer and dramaturg, broadening her creative practice across disciplines. She has taught at the Ernst Busch Academy of Performing Arts and the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT) and, since 2020, has frequently been a guest lecturer in Acting at NYU Berlin.
