Winners of the 2025 Green Violet Script Call
Everyone who submitted to the third annual Green Violet Script Call has something to be proud of. They addressed one of the most pressing topics of our day and explored the intricacies and complexities of the climate conversation in original, creative, engaging, and even, humorous ways.
Thanks to the generosity of Talon Entertainment, each winner receives $500 and a professional script consultation. Of the several scripts written by the NYU community that were submitted to this year’s Green Violet script call, the three scripts deemed the most compelling by our judges are:
The Sea Women by Josephine Jung
“Elegant structure, strong character work…This script, in short, is a clear and involving read, something I’d love to see on the screen.”
The Last Womb by Adriana Kyncl
“Funny, surprising, disturbing…This script is inventive and daring, with a deliciously good premise and a very smart frame-narrative structure.”
I Could Make You Care by Scott Thomas Huffman
“Strong character work and theatrically deft…The play's focus on its interpersonal conflicts elevates the theme of climate change from an existential threat to a battle of wills and ideology with the seawall becoming a metaphor for how it is to brace the storm of another person.”
Honorable Mention:
Como Me Duele by Andrés Worstell
“With original, quirky characters and plotting that progresses on different consciousness planes, the story provides a compelling throughline from start to finish.”
Dark World Children by Reuben Hamlyn
“Without any brash or horrific visual manifestations of climate change, Dark World Children still manages to keep its threat front and center. We’re left with no clear right or wrong – just a lot to think about.”
Thanks to everyone for their important work, and congratulations to our winning writers.
