The Department of Photography & Imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts presents a survey of recent lens-based work from alumni. On view are works from former students from the 1980s through the 2000s showcasing a broad spectrum of approaches to the medium, ranging from works originally created on fabric to traditional still photographic prints. The work shown here encompasses the varied nature of contemporary photographic practice, including intimate portraits, constructed tableaux, documentary works, formalist, and abstract images.

These images represent a segment of work from our larger exhibition New Works from the Department of Photography & Imaging Faculty and Alumni, which is on view through January 3rd, 2020 from 9:00 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. on the 8th floor of 721 Broadway, NY, NY. A reception for the show will be held on October 3rd from 6-8 P.M. in the same location.

Centered on the making and understanding of images, this program offers students the intensive focus of an arts curriculum, while demanding a broad grounding in the liberal arts. Our department embraces multiple perspectives, with majors working in virtually all modes of analog and digital photo-based image making and multimedia.

Alumni go on to publish in national newspapers and magazines, work in museums and community art, and become art critics, documentary photographers, photojournalists, filmmakers, and graphic designers.
