The HeteroMonotony Project

The HeteroMonotony Project

The HeteroMonotony Project is an exploration of female desire and dissatisfaction within hetero-monogamous (or hetero-monogamous presenting) marriage. It is the co-creation of Performance Studies alum Jessamyn Fitzpatrick (M.A. '23) and Jenn Bokoch Gillett (NYU Steinhardt), and the recipient of the Episcopal Actor's Guild's 2025 Open Stages Grant.

In a cultural moment of unprecedented choice, but also a renewal of conservative panic and pressure, marriage is still consistently framed as a social achievement and ideal, and a “happily after ever” solution . But Is it ever possible to rehabilitate an institution so squarely built on patriarchy, property, ownership, and normativity? This play, based on a series of interviews with divorcées asks the question, "What happens when we push beyond aspiring to an 'I do' and fully realize the power of saying 'I don’t (anymore)'?

The show will be presented the weekend of August 22-24, 2025, at Guild Hall at 1 E 29th St, New York, NY. Tickets are available at the below link.
