Performance Studies PhD candidate Pamela Santana Oliveros has published her article, Afrofutur1st Garçon: From Material to Matter, in Intervenxions, the online publication of The Latinx Project at New York University. The piece emerged from her work as part of the 2025 Public Humanities Fellowship at The Latinx Project and centers on Afro-Brazilian non-binary artist Afrofutur1st Garçon, a member of the House/Ballroom culture.

Santana Oliveros describes the opportunity to develop this article as invaluable, noting that it builds upon her ongoing research on Ballroom culture and Latin America. Through the story of Afrofutur1st Garçon, she explores how members of the Latinx community experience and navigate Ballroom spaces while engaging in performance and advocacy within the broader mainstream scene.
