PS Alum Gwen Rakotovao Starts PhD at Stockholm University of the Arts

Gwen Rakotovao (PS MA '29)

Gwen Rakotovao (MA'19), a dancer and choreographer now based in Europe, is pursuing a PhD at Stockholm University of the Arts after spending a decade in the United States performing, dancing, and creating works.

Her research, titled "Famadihana 2.0 | Embodied Explorations: Investigating the Essence of the Famadihana Ritual", focuses on the Malagasy funeral ritual of Famadihana, using dance and choreography to explore its transformative nature. This research also seeks to understand how these elements, studied across time and space, could influence contemporary choreographic practices and offer potential for future healing through movement.
