Blanca Ulloa (PS Ph.D. Candidate) and Leto Ybarra (MA Candidate in the XE: Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement Dept.) have curated Stress and Jest is a public program that seeks to examine how violence, entertainment, and spectacle are intertwined, placing particular emphasis on how tragicomedy, discorrelation or "the cartoonish" can expose structural dynamics as well as create spaces for renewal. These topics will be addressed from different artistic and literary disciplines, including performances, poetry readings, workshops, talks, and a subsequent discussion.
The event will be held at Judson Memorial Church on Tuesday Nov 12, 2024 from 7:00 - 9:00PM. The event is free and open to the public.
The participating artists are Barnett Cohen, Marcel Alcalá, NIC Kay, Brianna Rose Brooks, Milton Garcia Ninja, and Luna Luis Ortiz.
The event is sponsored by a HCI Public Humanities Grant.
The workshop with Milton Garcia Ninja and Luna Luis Ortiz will be at 4:00 - 5:30PM by registration only. Register here.
