Summer Kim Lee is an Assistant Professor of English at UCLA. She earned her MA and PhD in Performance Studies from New York University. She has research and teaching interests in Asian American literature, performance, and culture, critical race and ethnic studies, feminist theory, and queer theory. She is co-editor of a special issue of Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory with Vivian L. Huang titled, "Performances of Contingency: Feminist Relationality and Asian American Studies After the Institution." She has published and
forthcoming work in Social Text, ASAP/Journal, the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Asian American and Pacific Islander Literature and Culture, Asian Diasporic Visual Cultures and the Americas, Post45, Los Angeles Review of Books, and Public Books.
Summer Kim Lee earned her B.A. in the Gallatin School at New York University with a concentration in women of color feminist performance. She has research and teaching interests in Asian American literature and culture, in addition to feminist theory, queer theory, and popular music and sound studies. Summer is currently working on her first book project titled, Unaccommodating Acts: Asian American Aesthetics and the Limits of Sociality, which brings together the fields of Asian American studies, performance studies, and queer theory. Unaccommodating Acts examines how Asian American cultural production at the turn of the twenty-first century shapes an aesthetics that undoes recognizable, normative forms of sociality, and the political subjectivities and collectivities built upon them. From 2013-2015, she served as Managing Editor of Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory. She has published and forthcoming work in the Journal of Popular Music Studies, ASAP/Journal, Women & Performance: a journal of feminsit theory, and the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Asian American Literature and Culture. In 2018, Summer accepted a Mellon postdoctoral fellowship at Dartmouth College.
