This weekend, Collaborative Arts and Open Arts instructor Ron Shalom presents his show Minivan featuring Jack Howard Dexter with performances by Belly Chorus.
Ron Shalom is the genre-defying producer, composer, and theater maker whose maverick songwriting and immaculate pop instincts have made him one of the most inventive voices in contemporary performance. Minivan is his ecstatic and surreal immersive live show that participants have called “a spaceship through the collective unconscious” and “an instant portal to pure joy.” Driven to spark unexpected human connection in an era of darkness and isolation, Shalom hurtles through kaleidoscopic character transformations using lighting design, camp couture, absurdist ritual, and pop bangers – a backseat dance party for all as we cruise through the cosmos.
Belly Chorus is a vocal music laboratory and community choir in New York City dedicated to ensemble-led singing across traditions.
Performances take place on April 23rd, 24th, and 25th at Life World (563 Johnson Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11237), with doors opening at 7:30 PM and the show starting at 8 PM. Tickets and more information can be found here.
