This summer, Open Arts instructor Jeffrey Stanley worked with two colleagues to launch The Jeff & Shuvam Show, a YouTube podcast in which rock photographer Shuvam Dasgupta and Stanley review new Indian cinema streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
This international collaboration is produced by Indian film director and Fulbright Scholar Abhijit Chowdhury at his Kolkata-based media production company, Concept Cube. The goal of the podcast is for the film reviews to serve as a gateway for US audiences into classic Indian films beyond the Bollywood genre. Stanley also recently published his article, "Nil Darpan: How a Mistakenly Published Play Helped Force Labour Reforms In British India" in the prestigious peer-reviewed UK journal Race & Class, which is published in association with the Institute for Race Relations. NYU community members can access this article through the Sage Journals website.
The article was first presented as a talk Stanley gave at the annual Fulbright Association Conference in October 2023 in Denver, CO, which he was able to attend thanks to travel funds received through the Tisch Adjunct Faculty Professional Development Grant.
