Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program alums Emily Chiu, Keurim Hur, and Xiaodan Zhang (all Cycle 26) have their thesis musical UNSHELVED translated and licensed for a tour abroad in China.
Chinese translations were provided by Smile Zhou and Program alum Sheng Lei (Cycle 27).
The show, with a book by Hur, lyrics by Chiu, and music by Zhang, follows Harper and Spork, two minor characters in a mediocre Young Adult novel, who discover that they are on a magical shelving cart that allows them to travel to other books overnight. Unshelved (圖書館奇妙夜) is a genre-hopping meta musical that examines what it means to be a character in our literary landscape.
