Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program alum Tyrone L. Robinson (Cycle 20) opened his musical Show Way The Musical At BAM.

Originally commissioned by The Kennedy Center in 2022, the musical, adapted from the award-winning book by Jacqueline Woodson with musical book by Woodson and music and lyrics by Robinson, is on a national tour through the Kennedy Center's Theater For Young Audiences on Tour.

Show Way The Musical tells the story of Soonie's great-grandma who was just seven years old when she was sold to a big plantation without her ma and pa, with only some fabric and needles to call her own. She began to stitch a Show Way, a quilt with secret meanings to show enslaved people the way to freedom. As each generation passes, the Show Way shines a light on the past and paves a road to the future, stitching together possibility and promise.
