Songs My Brothers Taught Me
The Independent Spirit Award Nominations came out last week and Graduate Film was well-represented.
Cary Fukunaga is nominated for three awards: Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Picture for his film Beasts of No Nation. Joshua James Richards was also nominated for Best Cinematography for his work on Chloe Zhao's Songs My Brothers Taught Me.
Three of the five films nominated for Best First Feature are by Grad Film students and alumni including Josef Kubota Wladyka and Elena Greenlee for Manos Sucias, Chloe Zhao and Mollye Asher for Songs My Brothers Taught Me, and Jonas Carpignano for Mediterranea, which also garnered a Best First Screenplay nomination.
László Nemes' film Son of Saul was nominated for Best Foreign Film.
