Grad Film Adjunct Instructor Tony Martinez has received the Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Sound Editing For A Limited Or Anthology Series, Movie Or Special for his work as the ADR Editor on The Penguin.
The spin-off miniseries follows 2022's The Batman, exploring the rise to power of Oz Cobb, known as The Penguin, in Gotham City's criminal underworld
Tony Martinez is an award winning sound editor whose career spans over 40 years. Most recently, he won an Emmy for his work on the HBO limited series, THE PENGUIN, and supervised the dialogue and ADR on the Oscar nominated soundtrack for Bradley Cooper’s MAESTRO.
As supervising sound editor, Tony has recently worked on the highly regarded documentary ELIE WIESEL: SOUL ON FIRE. As supervising dialogue and adr editor, he is privileged to have collaborated with Dee Rees (MUDBOUND, BESSIE), David Gordon Green (Halloween KIlls, Halloween Ends), Sofia Coppola (THE BEGUILED, ON THE ROCKS), Marielle Heller (CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME, A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD), Craig Gillespie (I, TONYA), Roger Michel (MORNING GLORY), Robert Benton (THE HUMAN STAIN), Scott McGhee and David Siegel (BEE SEASON, UNCERTAINTY), Robert DeNiro (THE GOOD SHEPHERD), Darren Aronofsky (THE WRESTLER), and Mira Nair (AMELIA).
His work on Todd Hayne’s MILDRED PIERCE earned him an Emmy nomination. He won the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel award for his work on BESSIE. Other Golden Reel nominations honor his work on BARBIE, THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX, and REVOLUTIONARY ROAD.
Tony is also proud to have worked with Robert Frank (LAST SUPPER), Lodge Kerrigan (CLEAN, SHAVEN), Paul Schrader (AFFLICTION), Neil Burger (INTERVIEW WITH THE ASSASSIN), Mira Nair (VANITY FAIR), and Spike Lee (DO THE RIGHT THING).
He has been teaching Post Production Sound at NYU’s Tisch Graduate School of Film since 2004.
