SXSW has announced its official selections for its 2022 Film Festival, featuring several NYU Grad Film alumni projects.

‘Descendant’

‘Descendant’

Descendant, directed and produced by alumna Margaret Brown, in Festival Favorites: Descendant follows the search for and discovery of The Clotilda, the last known ship to illegally carry enslaved Africans in the United States. Guided by the voices of their ancestors, descendants of The Clotilda’s survivors reclaim their past and examine what justice looks like today. (Texas Premiere)

‘All the Crows in the World’

All the Crows in the World, written and directed by MFA candidate Tang Yi, in Narrative Shorts: 18-year-old high school girl Shengnan is invited to a mysterious party by her cousin. She enters a night of adventures in the adults' world.

‘Warsha’

Warsha, written and directed by alumna Dania Bdeir, in Narrative Shorts: A Syrian migrant working as a crane operator in Beirut volunteers to cover a shift on one of the most dangerous cranes, where he is able to find his freedom. (Texas Premiere)

'A Woman on the Outside'

A Woman on the Outside, produced by alumna Kiara C. Jones, in Documentary Spotlight: Kristal is a young, ambitious Philadelphian driven to keep families connected to their incarcerated loved ones. But when her father and brother return from prison, she confronts the ultimate question: can she reunite her own family? (World Premiere)

‘The Sentence of Michael Thompson’

‘The Sentence of Michael Thompson’

The Sentence of Michael Thompson, directed by alum Haley Elizabeth Anderson, in Documentary Shorts: Michael Thompson is the longest serving non-violent offender in the history of Michigan and he is finally up for clemency. After 25 years, 3 appeals, and 2 denied applications for clemency it seems like Michael may finally have a chance at freedom. (World Premiere)

SXSW will run from March 11-20, 2022.
