Alumna Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland continues to prove itself as one of the year’s best films, sweeping the major categories at this year’s Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Nomadland was named Best Picture, an award Zhao shares with collaborator and fellow alumna Mollye Asher. Zhao also took home awards for Best Director and Best Editing. The film’s DP, alumnus Joshua James Richards, won Best Cinematography.

Alumnus Elegance Bratton won Film Independent’s Truer Than Fiction Award in recognition of his documentary Pier Kids. The award is presented to an emerging director of non-fiction features who has not yet received significant attention. The recipients of this award become Film Independent Fellows.
