Alum Reinaldo Marcus Green is directing King Richard, a Warner Bros production starring Will Smith.
King Richard follows the story of Venus and Serena William’s father, Richard Williams (played by Smith), who had a plan to make his daughters the greatest tennis players in the world. The film was the center of a highly competitive bidding war early last year; according to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount, Sony’s TriStar, MRC, and High Ground Productions (Barack and Michelle Obama’s company) were all bidding for the project. This marks Green’s first big studio production following his Sundance success - and directorial debut - Monsters and Men (2018).
Warner Bros will be releasing King Richard on Nov. 25, 2020.
