Alum Nicole Kassell won Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series for HBO’s Watchmen at this year’s DGA Awards. Kassell won for the pilot episode “It’s Summer and We’re Running Out of Ice”, which received resounding high praise upon its premiere.

Watchmen, based on the original DC Comics, is set in an alternate history where superheroes are treated as outlaws. RollingStone called the show “a dazzling reinvention of a landmark comic” and IndieWire specifically mentioned Kassell as a “directorial force”. Of the series’ nine episodes, Kassell directed three, including the second episode (“Martial Feats of Comanche Horsemanship”), the eighth episode (“A God Walks into Abar”) and the aforementioned pilot. Kassell is also an executive producer on the show.

Watchmen remains HBO’s most-watched new series since “Big Little Lies”.
