Alum Lydia Dean Pilcher made her directorial debut with Radium Girls.

After years of working as a producer on projects with industry titans such as Wes Anderson and Kathryn Bigelow, Pilcher stepped into a new role as director. Set in the early 20th century, Radium Girls follows women working at the U.S. Radium Factory, painting glow in the dark watches, unaware of the dangers of working with radium. The film stars Joey King and Abby Quinn.

According to Variety, “The lasting precedent that the [resulting] case, based on true events, set for workplace safety is what inspired Pilcher to dramatize the story on screen and direct for the first time.”

The film was released in select theaters on October 23, and is now available for streaming.
