Alum Alan Taylor is directing The Many Saints of Newark, the upcoming Sopranos film for New Line.
The film will serve as a prequel to HBO’s groundbreaking series, which ran for six seasons between 1999 and 2007. Deadline reports that the film will be “focused on Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), a mentor to young Tony as his own father, Johnny Boy, was grooming his son on a pathway to organized crime prominence. There are expected to be call-backs and shout-outs to numerous other series characters in the film, which is set in the earlier time period.”
Taylor was a frequent series director on The Sopranos, which won him an Emmy in 2007.
The Many Saints of Newark release date is Sept 25, 2020.
