Ana Anu

Ana Anu (she/they) is a poet and multi-media artist with a background in global sustainability consulting. Their work, centering ecofeminist poetics, has been materialized in two books of poetry, “Noon” (2017, thisisfeministart) and “Mona Mona Mona” (2019, thisisfeministart) and through large public discourse performances, films, and installations internationally.  Anu is an MFA graduate of Naropa University and an MA graduate from NYU Tisch. Anu’s work has been exhibited through two solo exhibitions, “Crone:God:Monster” at Cube Gallery in 2021 and “Call Your Grandmother!” at Leon Gallery in 2022 as well as through dozens of group exhibitions. Their third book, a x-genre project titled “Crone-Ology” is forthcoming. Anu organizes intersectional feminist spaces and grandmother’s councils through various organizations. Anu is a current fellow with Emerge NYC, an organization nurturing the work of emerging artists of the city.

PROJECT

“SWAY” is an intersectional ecofeminist film response to IPCC report findings that detail colonialism and capitalism as major drivers of climate collapse. An all femme cast and crew, this short film depicts the multi-layered impacts of global western capitalism on vulnerable demographics through the feminine gaze, somatic inquiry, dance, and collaged poetry. It aims to highlight the importance of femme-led initiatives like The International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, Intersectional Environmentalism and Climate Words. This project will be screened through multiple projections, offering an immersive filmic and sonic experience. Key contributors of this project include: Hana Anwar, Nina Riley ,Catalina Lamboy Vellón, NYU Arts and Public Policy alumni and faculty, Climate Words and The International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers.
