Rose DeSiano
2023-2024 FIC Researcher
Rose DeSiano brings photography and sculpture together in a public art practice that examines cultural symbolism, the collective consciousness, and the long, tangled history of the photograph and the monument as both a truth-teller and myth-maker. Interested in bringing to the surface lost or undiscussed topics of history. Her outdoor immersive installations work to activate the landscape by celebrating unsung communities, DeSiano sees public art as an act of advocacy and activism. Commissioned by multiple cities, her photo-sculptures have appeared all over New York, San Diego, Cleveland, and Delaware and have been the recipient of multiple awards, including; Uniqlo Parks Grat and FLOW.17 Public Art Award. Her gallery artwork has been exhibited in solo shows in the US and Europe, along with group museum exhibitions including the Park Avenue Armory, Bronx Art Museum, Allentown Museum, Heritage Museum of Málaga. She has been featured in international art fairs; Photoville, FOTOFOCUS, and Orange Changsha Photo, China. Her work appears in publications including; Hyperallergic, Vogue, Time-Out, ArtNews, and UK’s Aesthetica. DeSiano has her MFA from Art Center, LA, and her BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of Arts. A native Brooklynite, she currently lives in NYC and is a Professor of Art at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
