On Sunday, Oct. 13, some fifty Tisch Drama alumni joined current and former faculty and staff at the first of four alumni receptions celebrating the department’s 50th Anniversary year. The mood in the Riese Lounge was festive and nostalgic, with alums enjoying opportunities to reconnect and catch up with old friends and creative collaborators.
During the reception, attendees were treated to a panel discussion about the current TISCH DRAMA STAGE production, “Waiting for Lefty” and reminisced about the department’s trajectory and past highlights. The panelists were Evangeline Morphos, former Drama Chair; Vicki Hart, the founding director of The Meisner Studio; alumnus and producer Richie Jackson; and nicHi douglas, the director of “Waiting for Lefty.” Chris Jaehnig, Director of the Production & Design Studio, moderated. Following the reception, many alum walked the halls of the department remembering and reliving their time at Tisch Drama.
“I feel even clearer after our first alumni reception how needed these moments are, and how valuable they have the potential to be,” said Tomi Tsunoda, Tisch Drama Chair. “It's tremendous to see alumni from so many eras and generations of Tisch Drama — but also of New York Theatre — connect with each other. For those of us who are on faculty and staff currently, there was a palpable feeling of zooming out and realizing the scale of history we all belong to.”
The second 50th Anniversary Alumni reception will be on November 17, 11:00am, prior to a performance of TD STAGE’s “The Bacchae,” directed by Kevin Kuhlke. To register, visit Alumni Reception: The Bacchae.
