This summer, Tisch Drama's Office of Career Development & Alumni Engagement stopped off in Los Angeles to meet with alumni, tour the new NYU LA program spaces, and attend the Tisch alumni cocktail party.
Rachel Friedman, who heads the office, said she spent a lot of time hearing from alumni who work primarily in film and TV, who are also busy creating original work. In addition to catching up on their lives post-Tisch, she was there to learn how the office can continue to support them.
“It was echoed through these meetings that alumni felt strongly about their NYU Tisch community in LA,” she said, “because once they left New York, this was the community of collaborators they continue to work with and feel closest to.”
Friedman also met with alumni who spearheaded and continue to work with programs in New York.
“Both Bryce Dallas Howard and Brendan Bradley are fantastic collaborators and continue to build on the programs they have started with NYU Tisch Drama,” she said.

The visit concluded with a tour of the new NYU LA facilities, located across the street from the Grove—a popular shopping, dining, and entertainment complex in LA. The new program presents a unique study away opportunity for upper-level undergraduate students planning to make careers in the entertainment and media industries, with courses in business structure, movie marketing, script analysis, and more—with a substantial professional development component.
“This exciting brand new space will house all NYU courses that take place in LA, in addition to occasional special events that will be open to students studying away in LA,” she said, “as well as events that will be open to the entire alumni community.”
