TISCH DRAMA STAGE: All Department Festival

All Department Festival 2022

TISCH DRAMA STAGE

PRESENTS THE

All Department Festival

NOVEMBER 17-20, 2022

Curated by Arts Professor Shanga Parker

The All Department Festival brings together faculty from across the Drama Department with student performers and Production & Design team members for an exploration of A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Doug Paulson. In addition, the festival will feature in lucem, a response production of devised work directed by Malika Samuel and performed in repertory throughout the week, exploring the timely narratives and issues of Shakespeare's original work through deconstructed performance components.

A Midsummer Night's Dream
NOV. 17, 19-20

Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Doug Paulson

The company will investigate Shakespeare's play by asking questions about anxiety, panic, stress, dreams, nightmares, symbolism and the sub/unconscious (ie: “The Actor’s Nightmare” or “waking up in a cold sweat” or “getting caught naked in public” etc.). We will explore and construct the world of the play, the characters’ journeys, relationships and dynamics through the lens of the current global state of communal dread and delicate mental health. This particular moment of post-quarantine/post-isolation resocialization provides a context rife with opportunity to make Shakespeare's story current, and accessible.

Collaboration and Process. An Investigative Ritual on Stage embracing Multi-Tongues and Mess.

In our consciousness, we are veiled but when we dream, this veil is lifted and we are offered access to a portal, a space-time - in the world but not of the world - within which all that is possible is revealed and we can finally see…deeply and truly. Do you dare to open it?
