TISCH REPRESENTS

Tisch Represents

Tisch Represents

Tisch Represents is a community of Tisch alumni dedicated to elevating underrepresented voices in television and film.

We believe that career development is best fostered through collaboration.

We provide emerging, mid-career, and established alumni opportunities to work together and build long-lasting professional relationships.

We believe that by creating together and then sharing that work with a wider network of industry professionals, we are providing a unique opportunity for our alumni to make connections, make art, and make our Tisch alumni community stronger.

We define “underrepresented” as any person who identifies as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, a woman, non-binary, and/or a person with a disability. Our community includes underrepresented Tisch alumni artists and their Tisch alumni allies.

Tisch Represents is a volunteer-run community supported by NYU Tisch School of the Arts Alumni Relations.

HISTORY

Founded (as the Tisch OTHER Showcase) in 2018 by two Tisch alumni -- actress/producer Sharon Freedman and writer/director/producer Kimberlea Kressal -- the annual showcase featured staged excerpts from six original pilots written by underrepresented Tisch alumni writers featuring underrepresented lead characters performed by Tisch alumni actors. Each live staged excerpt was preceded by an accompanying 90-second pilot presentation created by an underrepresented Tisch alumni filmmaker.

The projects were mentored by NYU / Tisch alumni showrunners including Alon Aranya, Gemma Baker, Bridget Bedard, Angelina Burnett, Matthew Carnahan, Jessica Goldberg, Dan Jinks, Glen Mazzara, Danny Rose, Lizzy Weiss, and Nick Wootton. The projects were narrated by notable alumni actors including Elizabeth Alderfer, Wade Allain-Marcus, Malcolm Barrett, Kat Foster, Melissa Fumero, Bryan Greenberg, Haley Joel Osment, Keith Powell, Dewanda Wise, Kristoffer Polaha, Brigette Lundy-Paine, and Eloise Mumford. In its inaugural year, the showcase, open only to industry guests, sold out in under three hours -- requiring additional performances in 2019 and prompting the producers to reimagine a more widely accessible format for future years.
