Wendell Beavers

Wendell Beavers, teacher, dancer, choreographer and director, was a founding faculty member of New York University’s Experimental Theater Wing (ETW) and director of that program from 1985-90. He was a co-founder of Movement Research in New York and directed that organization in the early 1980’s, recently teaching in the Movement Research at MOMA series. He was the founding Chair of Naropa University’s MFA Theater: Contemporary Performance Program in 2004, and is Professor Emeritus of Performing Arts at Naropa University, a Buddhist inspired, non-sectarian university in Boulder, Colorado. He is currently on the faculty of the newly created Collaborative Arts BFA at Tisch School of the Arts, guest faculty at ETW and Naropa’s MFA. He created Developmental Technique™ based on extensive study with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, developer of Body-Mind Centering® and is currently collaborating with Mary Overlie, originator of The Viewpoints, on The Viewpoints Futures Institute. His work has been seen in New York at Dance Theater Workshop (now NY LIVE ARTS), PS 122, Movement Research at Judson Church, Danspace Project, Dixon Place/VineyardTheatre and as part of many loft space projects.
