Janelle Hutchison

Janelle has enjoyed an extensive and varied arts career for more than 35 years in the United States and Canada.  She comes to Tisch/NYU from Toronto where she was an Associate Casting Director at the Canadian Film Centre founded by Norman Jewison in 1988 and a Senior Casting Associate at Stephanie Gorin Casting.  Janelle has taught musical theater audition technique at the Randolph Academy and On-Camera audition seminars, in addition to private coaching.  A former Associate Manager of Programming Administration at Canada’s largest capacity theater, Toronto’s O’Keefe Centre for the Performing Arts (now Sony Centre), Janelle was also the Assistant to the Producer of the Stratford Festival of Canada.

As an actor, Janelle played Mme. Thenardier in the original Canadian production of Les Miserables for more than 1500 performances.  Other theater credits include White Christmas, Company, Gypsy, Oliver, Isn’t It Romantic, Crimes of the Heart and Anne of Green Gables.  Television and film work includes episodic series for ABC, NBC, SOAPnet, CBC, CTV, Global, TVO, and CBS.

An alumna of the Canadian Film Centre’s 2004 Alliance Atlantis Film Resident Programme, Janelle is an award-winning screenwriter and is currently working on a collection of short stories.
