Christina Watanabe-Jensen

Visiting Assistant Arts Professor

Christina Watanabe is a professional lighting designer based in NYC who travels for work and for fun and and enjoys sharing her experiences with others. She earned her MFA from NYU's Tisch Department of Design for Stage and Film and her BFA in Lighting Design as well as a BSBA in Marketing from the University of Florida. Christina is a proud member of USA 829. 

Christina's designs have been seen at Primary Stages/Cherry Lane, Lincoln Center Festival/Alice Tully Hall, The Public Theatre, Penguin Rep, Urban Stages, The Bushwick Starr, ART/NY's Gural Theatre, The New Ohio, HERE Arts Center, Teatro LaTea, Intar Theatre, Theatre for the New City, Jack, The Brick Theatre, Three-Legged Dog, The Connelly Theatre, Vital Theatre Company and others. 

Christina is the resident lighting designer for Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. She has designed for and toured with Shen Wei Dance Arts in Tel-Aviv, Lima, Milan, Luxembourg, Bregenz, Dallas, Detroit, and many other European and US cities. Christina has also toured with Jonah Boaker, So Percussion, and The Magnetic Fields. Christina is the lighting design lead for Ralph Lauren's Madison Avenue windows and has also consulted with the company for their Home Goods showroom. 

She has designed for and mentored students at NYU Tisch (undergrad, grad, and Florence), Yale, LIU Post, Chapin School, Xavier High School, Bronx Theatre High, Brooklyn School for Music and Theatre, Gramercy High School. Christina was a panelist for "A Discussion: Designers and Directors" hosted by the League of Professional Theatre Women and a design collaborator for New York City Ballet's Choreographic Institute.
