Cinema Studies Graduate Honored as Department Celebrates 50th Anniversary
NYU Tisch will honor notable alumnus, screenwriter, Emmy-winning producer and director Eddy Moretti (’98) at its 2018 gala. Moretti will join previously announced honorees Chris Columbus (’80) and Eleanor Columbus (’11) at the annual event, which will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Capitale.
“On the occasion of the Department of Cinema Studies’ 50th anniversary, we honor Eddy Moretti for his trailblazing career as a writer, director, producer and creative executive in online, television and film media. We are so grateful for his commitment to support the next generation of artists,” said Allyson Green, Dean, NYU Tisch School of the Arts. “Eddy's support of NYU Tisch continues the tradition of giving that shaped his career. Norman Jewison first gave Eddy a scholarship to attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts. It was here that he studied with Cinema Studies Professor Emeritus Annette Michelson, whom he says changed his life and in whose name he has endowed a scholarship at NYU Tisch. We honor Eddy’s commitment to artists of the future and his wish to inspire others to support the next generation of creators.”
Screenwriter and producer Eddy Moretti is a graduate of the Department of Cinema Studies at NYU Tisch, where he specialized in film theory and the avant-garde. As a screenwriter, Moretti has sold feature screenplays to New Line Cinema, Plan B and Summit Entertainment, and River Road Entertainment. Moretti is also a prolific producer of film and television, winning an Emmy as co-Executive Producer of the HBO original series VICE. In 2016, alongside longtime creative partner Spike Jonze, he launched Viceland, an Emmy-winning 24-hour cable TV channel that will be available in more than 80 territories around the world by the end of 2018. Moretti has also served as Executive Producer on over a dozen feature films and documentaries from Fishing Without Nets, his first scripted feature film and winner at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, to The Bad Batch, visionary director Ana Lily Amirpour’s latest film and winner at the 2017 Venice Film Festival. Recent documentaries include Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond with Jim Carrey and his own film on the economic and social theory of Jeremy Rifkin, The Third Industrial Revolution: A Radical New Sharing Economy. Moretti currently serves as Chief Creative Officer at VICE Media, where he is responsible for content across all of VICE’s media channels, as well as for all of VICE’s branded content initiatives. Moretti is a supporter of Edible Schoolyards, the Urban Arts Program, and serves on the Chairman’s Council of the environmental organization Conservation International.
Since its founding in 1965, the Tisch School of the Arts has established itself as one of the leading arts schools in the country.
