Supporting innovative faculty research and activity across the widely diverse practices at Tisch

For the 2026-27 academic year, TCR has launched a new pilot program, the Dean’s Innovation Grants, which will replace the long-standing Dean’s Faculty Research Grant program. The new program will support innovative faculty research and activity across arts practice and scholarship at Tisch.

As a one-year pilot, the new Dean’s Innovation Grant program will help strengthen Tisch’s long-term research capacity by yielding answers to some critical questions: How can institutional support best facilitate sustained inter- and trans-disciplinary investigation? What frameworks are necessary to ensure disciplinary rigor as well as flexible engagement across fields of inquiry? How will we measure and assess impact of these sustained collaborations - and how will findings be shared broadly within and beyond the institution?

Answers to these questions will contribute to an emerging map of Tisch’s expanding research infrastructure. Incorporating what we learn from this pilot into new initiatives will also help us respond to the specific demands of artists and scholars working in contemporary practice, and will inform the ongoing development of Tisch’s research agenda.
