DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 29, 2022 AT 11:59 PM ET
NYU Tisch Future Imagemakers is a social practice photography workshop for high school students in the Department of Photography & Imaging and part of the Tisch Future Artists Program. Free digital photography classes are offered every spring and taught by NYU faculty and students to NYC area high school students.
Open to 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade NYC-area high school students. The program runs from February – May 2023. No previous photography experience is required––just passion.
We at Future Imagemakers are passionate about image-making. We believe in the power of photography as self-expression and as a means to reflect on our surroundings and lives, build self-confidence, and address social justice issues. We strive to expand boundaries, open up possibilities, and learn from each other.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
A Future Imagemaker is someone who makes images and creates visual content in a variety of contexts, including art, journalism, documentary, fashion, and more. If you find yourself drawn to visual aspects of life through the lens, you may be a Future Imagemaker. Students are encouraged to photograph their families, friends, and communities to explore their day-to-day lives, dreams, concerns, and social-political challenges.
The program meets on Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm, February 4 - May 13, 2023.
Students work in the classrooms and digital labs in the Department of Photography & Imaging, at NYU Tisch School of the Arts at 721 Broadway at Waverly Place.
Perfect attendance and punctuality are required along with a dedication to developing a personal vision. Students must be able to attend every Saturday session and arrive on time. Since participation in the program requires travel to NYU by 10:00 am, students will most likely live in cities and towns within 2 hours of NYU's Washington Square campus. All levels of image makers are encouraged to apply––no previous experience is needed.
FREE! All supplies included and digital cameras will be loaned to students for the duration of the program.
