Chuxi Shui
B.A. Candidate
Chuxi Shui is a multidisciplinary artist and designer working across installation, performance, and interactive media. She often works with materials, visuals, and interaction to create soft, immersive environments that invite people to slow down and engage physically with a work.
Her practice moves between physical and digital forms, combining visual design with sensory experience. She is interested in touch, atmosphere, and subtle shifts in perception, and in how meaning can emerge through interaction rather than fixed narratives.
Alongside her artistic work, she has participated in student film and theater productions and serves as a communications lead for the NYU Guitar Fingerstyle Club, where she works on visual content and promotion.
Why Performance Studies?
I chose Performance Studies because it allows me to explore both conceptual thinking and creative practice at the same time. I’m especially drawn to its openness and interdisciplinary nature, which makes space for working across installation, design, and performance rather than being confined to a single form.
As someone whose interests move between different media and ways of making, this flexibility has been important to me. It allows me to develop work that is process-based, experiential, and relational, while still being grounded in critical thinking.
