AJ King

AJ King (He/him) is a BA student, performer and aspiring teaching artist from Phoenix, Arizona, interested in learning all the ways on how the arts are impactful and how to make them more accessible and inclusive. He loves to be involved in his communities, whether he's working as an Admissions Ambassador by leading tours and answering questions about the NYU experience from perspective students/families, or working as a Program Assistant who helps plan larger scale events for the student body! Throughout his time at NYU, AJ has also been heavily involved in the theatre scene by performing around the city, in different student films, and even making his Off-Broadway with Tisch New Theatre in Spring 2025. AJ has also been involved with Knife Dog Play Festival since his first semester and has been a part of their marketing team, on their E- Board, since his third semester! Theatre changed his life and has seen it change others lives too! Since 2021, AJ has volunteered and worked at different theatres in Arizona to help teach theatre to kids! He is very passionate about the impact the arts have and hopes he can continue sharing that impact with everyone!

Why Performance Studies?
I chose Performance Studies at NYU because I was very interested in all aspects of theatre, and the fact that there was a major that studied all types of performance sounded perfect! I was drawn to the way the program gives you the classes and resources to be able to explore both with peers and professors in/outside of the classes, but how it is often very encouraged for you to explore on your own in/outside of the classroom as well! PS also helps you decide what you want to narrow in on as the semesters go by, through classes, events, and chances to connect with different communities. I'm excited to keep learning more about performance!
