Melis is a theatre artist from the coastal town of Izmir, Turkey. She graduated from Fordham College with a BA in Communications and Culture, and Theatre in 2018 and she got her first MA from NYU's Steinhardt in Educational Theatre. She is very interested in the use of theatre as a political and educational tool. Coming from a politically polarized country, she is very interested to see how history is reflected and represented on stage and how the differing POVs play a role in shaping the story.

Project Title: Chess: An Anthology of Human Psyche

Project Description:
Chess: An Anthology of Human Psyche is a paper concerned with the current production of Chess the Musical and the Brechtian elements in it. In this paper, I investigate the differences and the similarities between war, game, and play in the context of theatre and especially the aforementioned musical, as well as the similarities/differences between stage, board, field, and playground while looking through the connection between how theatre makes us think and feel through the lens of entertainment.

Project Inspiration: The current revival of Chess on Broadway
