Cassondra James is a New York City based actor, visual artist, and academic. She holds a masters degree in theological studies from Drew University, and a masters degree in sociology from CUNY Grad Center. Her recent theater credits include Marie Antoinette (Queen of Versailles - Broadway),  Mama Rose (Gypsy - Theater Aspen), and Mary Church Terrell (Suffs - Public Theater). She was a replacement for Erzulie and an original storyteller/ flute player in the Tony Award-winning revival of Once on This Island (Broadway), and Erzulie in the First National Tour of the same production. She has worked with a wide variety of recording artists including Cher, Cristina Aguilera, Angelique Kidjo, Ledisi, and Gladys Knight, and has recorded for movies such as K-POP Demon Hunters, Spirited, and Lyle Lyle Crocodile. Cassondra is also an active member of the Hamilton Heights Darkroom, a community of film photographers in Upper Manhattan.

Project Title: Haunted: Melancholia in the Pursuit of Justice, Jokes, and the Genealogy of Knowledge

Project Description: This presentation includes an aeteology of my investments in archive, including a discussion of subjugated knowledge and methodological possibilities for presencing the ghosts in our genealogies of knowledge.
