Project Title: Identity, A Case In Progress: On Phantom Meaning In Trans Life

Project Description: Tarrying with recent psychoanalytic theory's offering that the transsexual subject, through the use of memoir and life writing, might be able "to write themselves home to the body transformed," my project looks to the materials, both bodily and textual, that must be cut in the demand to articulate one true identity. My paper will ask what forces may cause one to cling to a sexual/gender identity, as well as it will introduce my longer project.

Project Inspiration: My project responds directly to a potential field opened in the publication of Gender Without Identity, co-written by Avgi Saketopoulou and Ann Pellegrini. As well, I look to be in conversation with writers and theorists from all disciplines, as well as those who are not writing for the academy at all.

Academic Interests: Poetics, Queer Theory, Psychoanalysis, Autotheory, Life Writing, Speculative Fiction, Performance Studies
