Camila Simonin

Camila Simonin works as a director and performance artist. In her research, she has looked into kinds of social gatherings, communication between groups that do not share "a common ground" and how apparatuses for group formation can be created through artistic events. She has published papers in international journals such as IDyM (Investigaciones en Danza y Movimiento) in Buenos Aires and has been awarded and nominated in theater festivals in Brazil. Camila is a Laban/Bartenieff movement analyst, holds an MA from the Department of Performance Studies at NYU and an MA in Dance Studies from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and is currently a PhD student in Performance Studies at Northwestern University

Workshop Proposal: Mobilizations on Progress

Description of Project

The project is a proposal for a workshop called “Mobilizations on Progress”, which intends to share theoretical techniques and practical materials between dance and theater practitioners and performers, so the participants can create new work through the lenses of mobilization and progress. The main question of our activities throughout the workshop is: "How does one’s work engage with the entanglements of choreography and politics?" The workshop hopes to create a space for artists who want to approach composition-making in a critical way while thinking about themes such as decolonization, political polarization and protest through movement studies and movement practice.
